For Researchers — From idea to Proof of Concept

The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest runs a competitive Proof-of-Concept (PoC) program to help promising early-stage research take its first step toward market application, with Vet-Inno TTC involved from an early stage in evaluating and monitoring projects.

The program targets ideas that are still at an early experimental stage but show realistic industrial or commercial potential, and provides funding for the specific experiments needed to demonstrate that the idea actually works.

Who can apply

University faculty and researchers can submit an idea for consideration. A researcher may submit more than one idea in the same call, and can also take part as a collaborator on someone else’s project.

Eligible types of ideas

  • Pharmaceuticals, medicinal preparations, feed or feed additives
  • Software or applications
  • Procedures, methods, diagnostic approaches, or treatments
  • Devices
  • Test systems (e.g., cell lines)

How the process works

Six-step process flowchart: 1. Registration — researchers register their intent to apply within the announced call window. 2. Full Submission — a full application is submitted, describing the idea and the experiments needed to test it. 3. Competitive Evaluation — applications are evaluated competitively, with Vet-Inno TTC already part of the evaluation panel, and the most promising projects are selected for funding. 4. PoC Funding & Progress — selected projects receive financial support to carry out the proof-of-concept experiments, with Vet-Inno TTC monitoring progress throughout. 5. IP & Market Validation — Vet-Inno TTC supports the project with market and technology validation, a freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, and an assessment of patentability or other forms of IP protection. 6. Investment Decision — based on the results, a decision is made on whether the project is ready for further investment and continued development toward market readiness.

Goal: successful projects advance from early-stage feasibility to a more mature, de-risked stage, at which point they can move into Vet-Inno TTC’s project portfolio for continued development toward licensing, spin-off creation, or commercial partnership.
