EliRoam — Portable Non-Invasive Hormone Trend Monitor (Progesterone & Cortisol)
- Non-invasive sample (saliva, faeces, urine, or blood)
- Progesterone + cortisol in one device
- Result via smartphone app in ~2 hours
Overview
Reproductive timing and stress monitoring in animals typically rely on invasive blood sampling and lab-based ELISA testing, which can take days. EliRoam is a portable immunoassay platform in early development that measures progesterone and cortisol trends from non-invasive samples using a compact reader and companion smartphone app, usable by non-specialist handlers in the field.
The technology is entering a two-month field pilot to evaluate trend-tracking accuracy and usability. The underlying concept — non-invasive sampling, dual-hormone monitoring, and smartphone-based readout — is not currently addressed by any single commercial competitor.
Evidence & results
The underlying hormone-assay technology (ELISA-based progesterone and cortisol detection) is well established and already published in the scientific literature — EliRoam’s novelty isn’t the core science but making it usable in the field: portable, non-invasive sampling, and a smartphone-based readout instead of a lab setup.
End-user tests and validation are due to start soon with a set of selected zoos and animal breeders. Results and news from these trials will be published once available.
